No prefecture-provided interpreter for the advance screening — applicants not proficient in Japanese must bring their own interpreter (通訳者の同伴が必要). The written knowledge exam is offered in 20 languages including English on request (申出てください at registration).
Test fees by license type: moped ¥1,600, ordinary ¥2,500, motorcycle ¥2,800, medium ¥3,900. License issuance: ¥2,350 (standard), ¥1,550 (My Number type), ¥2,450 (both). Exact amount depends on license category.
Applicant must be a resident of Kagawa Prefecture (residence certificate showing registered domicile required; for foreign nationals without a Japanese license the certificate must list nationality). Must prove 3+ months of residence in the country that issued the foreign license (e.g., passport entry/exit stamps). Required Japanese translation must come from an authorized entity such as the issuing country's embassy/consulate, JAF, or ALADDIN. Application photo: 3.0cm (H) × 2.4cm (W), bareheaded, plain background, frontal upper-torso, taken within 6 months. Prior traffic violations, license cancellations, or driving bans may result in denial.
