A certified translation of the foreign license is required, issued by an authorized body such as a government agency, the issuing country's consulate/embassy, JAF, Zip Plus Co., or the ALADDIN association. Applicant must have stayed a cumulative 3+ months (通算して3ヶ月以上) in the issuing country after obtaining the foreign license. Required items include the valid foreign license, the translation, a residence certificate (juminhyo) that shows the registered domicile (本籍地) but omits My Number and the residence-certificate code (「個人番号」「住民票コード」の記載のないもの), residence card and passport, passport(s) showing travel history, any expired Japanese license previously held, and a photo (3cm × 2.4cm, taken within 6 months, with the applicant's name and date of photography written on the back / その裏面に氏名及び撮影年月日を記入したもの).
